Volunteer FAQ
What makes Montoursville Fire Department unique?
We train to a heightened standard which prepares us to get to work the second we arrive on the scene. Our guiding principle, “expect fire, expect victims,” is clearly evident in the way we approach every call. We call it “the Montoursville Way” and it we are proud of the reputation it has earned us.
Do I need any experience to become a volunteer firefighter?
No! No prior training or experience is required for new members to join. After completing your application, you will begin basic training free of charge.
Will you provide the gear?
Yes! Montoursville Fire Department provides a welcoming atmosphere with state-of-the-art apparatus and equipment.
Suppose I want to become an EMT?
Volunteers that wish to become EMTs are provided free training at the Pennsylvania College of Technology. Should you wish to advance your training even further, paramedic training is available as well.
Will I get paid?
We consider ourselves professionals in a volunteer setting. Our volunteers are not paid, but there is a pay-per-call stipend available. More valuable than that, you will gain invaluable skills and experience that will benefit you in all aspects of life. They may even lead you toward a career as a first responder. This is the case for many of our members.
How much time will I spend volunteering?
As much time as you can give. We know volunteers can’t answer every call, but the more volunteers we have, the faster we can get to the scene and help. In emergencies, every second counts.
How do I get started as a volunteer firefighter at Montoursville Fire Department?
The easiest way is to first fill out an inquiry form. A member of our team will contact you to schedule a tour of the station, meet our other volunteers, and start the application process.
Volunteering led me down a career path deeper into medicine that I never knew existed.
